Everything Is My Fault This Week

Posted by: St.Ego on September 29, 2008 4:20:00 PM (1434 Reads)

That's right; it's my fault. All of it. Every last thing.

Stub your toe? Get a speeding ticket? Lose your job? Your wife? Your car? It's my fault.

You can rest assured that the misfortune life has seen fit to dump on your life is through no fault of your own. Point that finger squarely in this direction.

It's my fault.

And it will continue to be my fault until Sunday, at which point everything is Karo's fault, and you can blame him.

Some time soon, however, you have to take your turn; a whole week of being the cause of all our problems. You will be responsible for my network connection going on the blink, for spilling my coffee, and for preventing me from catching and fixing that bug.

Until then, you can blame it all on me.

You spend too much of your life either blaming yourself or someone else for what happens to you, whether it is consciously or unconsciously.

Get over it; this week it's my turn.

You can be at fault for everything next week, if you care to, and I highly suggest that you do.

By forcing the assumption of fault into arbitrary channels, you can reduce or eliminate the accompanying feelings of guilt. The purpose of guilt is to teach us, but it too often retains a severe level of negative stigma which can result in an immobilizing level of fear of blame. If you have a lesson to learn, remember it as such, and not as a judgement about who you are.

As an added bonus, having your own turn at the game will allow you to shamelessly admit to real fault when it is yours. What's more is that a history of such activity will desensitize friends and colleagues so they no longer put so much mental energy into blaming you for things, even when you might deserve it. Get respect without having to be perfect. You don't need someone else to ride your case about what you did incorrectly.

So, happy Monday, and remember to blame it on St.Ego!

Cheers...
