Movie Trailer Marathon: Recap
Periodically, the time comes for a good ole movie trailer marathon. When you are caught up on your show(s) and not yet ready to call it a night, you can always pick your favorite movie trailer site (Apple, for me, ironically) and fill an hour or two of back-to-back previews... assuming, of course, that you don't watch TV... I can only speak for myself, there.
I advise watching your trailers on a dedicated broadband connection. My 3G my be, in fact, dedicated, but we all know it's not supposed to be that way.
Click past the break to see which trailers struck my interest and what my expectations are for each...
Ghost Rider - Spirit of Vengeance
Typical Hollywood action movie. Catch it at the Alamo Drafthouse with a group of friends, have a bucket of beer, and enjoy some quality time with the guys... Not expecting anything worth writing home about here, tho.
Killer Elite
Hitman/assassin movies are more my type of action flick, tbh. I expect to enjoy this one, possibly even to be a bit hyped up after watching it. Not expecting my mind to be blow, however.
Bunraku
As long as you don't hate Josh Hartnet, this should prove to be an excellent cinematic experience. My movie snob friends will all have an opinion about this one, I expect. No offence, guys, but you know who you are.
Machine Gun Preacher
Actually, from the title, I expected a comedy, but this one is one the level as another action drama that takes place on the other side of the pond. My parents are unlikely to see it because of the title, but my mother would probably enjoy this one.
Limelight
Yet another club movie that turns out to be more about drugs and debauchery which I'll probably enjoy the hell out, but know a few people who will refuse to set foot in the theater for it if they watch the preview(s) first.
The Last Circus
I will hear about this movie from Sean Birchfield if I don't remember to tell him about it first. There are a few other friends who are twisted enough to have this be the movie they talk about for a while. The odd thing is that it's a movie involving clowns that I wouldn't mind watching. It looks like it will run like a foreign film, which is also something that would not ordinarily catch my interest. I don't think it will be something I catch in the theater, however...
Ra*One
I expected a martial arts flick with a heavy sci-fi flavor, but this looks like the Bollywood version, maybe. Sans the singing and dancing... maybe. Seriously, I kept expecting them to break out into singing and dancing, but the movie appears to take itself seriously throughout... well, okay, heavy on the fx, but you get my meaning. I would really like to see this one.
Apollo 18
I used to get the trailers for this movie confused with the ones for Transformers. It made watching Transformers a bit strange... and disappointing. I'd rather have watched Apollo 18, if the previews are anything to go by. Then, sometimes, I get excited that it might be a preview for some new Aliens movie with Ridley Scott involved. It still looks like an interesting movie, but my brain has trouble keeping straight which one it actually is...
Suing The Devil
Low-brow comedy, and it looks almost safe enough to watch at church. Won't be wasting my time, sorry...
The Darkest Hour
Aliens in Russia? I'm a big fan of northern european supernatural horror movies. The one actor looks like DiCaprio, but isn't, apparently. I wouldn't mind catching this one in the theater.
In Time
If JT doesn't bother you (thanks, Amelia, for that acronym), this looks like my type of intellectual sci-fi thriller. It's got that smarmy junior ad exec guy from Mad Men in it too; he's smarmy in this one as well. This one had some budget for effects and cinematography too, from the looks of it. In case the cast didn't give it away.
The Dark Knight Rises
Melodrama alert. I know it doesn't come in any other flavor, but still. Christian Bale was made for that type of overacting, however, so it should be a splendid movie that select friends will thoroughly enjoy.
Battleship
Okay, maybe I didn't read the synopsis well enough... I was NOT expecting alien spacecraft to be what those US Navy battleships would be up against. Got my pulse up just watching the trailer. Due out in 2012, however... *sigh*
Shaolin
About what you would expect from a historical martial arts flick with Jackie Chan in it. Entertainment for the whole family, yet not too mainstream for your martial arts movie collection.
That's everything on Apple that looked interesting enough for me to watch. More next time. I intend to be posting more often now, fwiw.
